Road Test Information
Class 5 Basic & Advanced
A Class 5 Basic road test may be taken if you are 16 years or older and hold a valid Alberta Class 7 Learners license. The Class 5 Basic road test usually takes about 30 minutes. In addition to demonstrating the basic skills of driving (starting, stopping, turns, lane changes, identifying signs, etc.), you will be required to demonstrate a parallel park and hill park. The examiner will explain the test procedures and you will be given the opportunity to ask questions about the test.
The Class 5 Advanced road test may be taken after you have held your Class 5 GDL license for 2 years. Eligibility may change depending on fines, suspensions or other matters that you had during your 2 year period. You can check with a Registry Agent to determine your eligibility.
The Class 5 Advanced road test takes approximately 1 hour to complete. You must demonstrate a higher level of competency than that of the Class 5 Basic road test. This test will incorporate higher speeds, merging, etc.
